meet brother max

Brothermax1

Now and again (and more and more often) we get the chance to work on creating completely new things from scratch.

Last year we were approached by a client who wanted to launch a range of babycare products which were all, without fail, very smart.  In the clever sense.  And the other sense.

It's lovely working on projects like this, right from the very first, nascent bit of building relationships with customers where none exist. And in fact where nothing at all exists but things.  So we named the range, created the identity, designed the packaging, looked at communications.  The lot.

Craig found this incredible series of old photographs over at The Boat Lullabies a while ago and they meant to find there way up here then.  But they're here now*.  A woman who'd documented her life (or rather looks) in pictures.  Odd, sad, disconcerting, beautiful and fascinating.

Birdsong

There was a story in G2 yesterday about the success of the looped birdsong noises replacing digital station Oneword when it was axed.  Apparently people love it.

Isn't this a bit like the aural equivalent of open fire screensavers?  But better?  Got us wondering about all sorts.  Is it that sound is more authentic than sight when it comes to reproduction?  Or is it just the rightness of the medium?  Radio's always been a lot more effective at creating atmosphere than screens in the background, interior-design-y sense of atmosphere.

Anyway, interesting.
